COVID-19

Based on current Government of Canada policies, you are not required to quarantine if you are fully vaccinated with a Canada-approved vaccine. You may, however, be randomly selected for mass-COVID-19 testing upon arrival.

Getting to Waterloo

BY AIR

Toronto Pearson International Airport is the nearest international airport, located 45 minutes from the Waterloo Region. It is easy to access via many transportation options. Learn more about how to plan your trip to/from Pearson.

Region of Waterloo International Airport (YKF) is located 20 minutes from the University of Waterloo. However, flight schedules and destinations are limited.

BY CAR

From Toronto:

  • Take ON-401 W towards London
  • Keep left at the fork, follow signs for QEW/Hamilton/Ontario 403/Ontario 410/Brampton
  • Keep left at the fork, follow signs for Ontario 401 W/London and merge onto ON-401 W
  • Take exit 278 to merge onto ON-8 W toward Kitchener/Waterloo

BY RAIL

UP Express is a direct journey from Toronto International Airport to Union Station in downtown Toronto.

The VIA Rail and GO Train runs between Toronto’s Union Staton and Kitchener; the train station is located at 126 Weber St. W, near the corner of Victoria St. in the northeast corner of downtown. Via runs three trains a day in each direction.

GO Trains run frequently between Kitchener and Toronto and are most used by commuters in the area.

BY BUS

Getting Around

SHUTTLES FROM HOTELS TO THE UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO

Shuttles will run regularly between hotels and the University of Waterloo for conference attendees. Check back closer to the conference for confirmed shuttle frequency and schedules.

CAR/PRIVATE TRANSPORTATION

Waterloo Region is easy to access by vehicle. Vehicle rentals are available through most major rental agencies. Uber and Lyft are also available for individual trips.

BUS

Grand River Transit (GRT) is the public transit operator for the Region of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. It operates daily bus services across Waterloo and the University of Waterloo campus.

ION LIGHT RAIL TRANSIT

ION is Waterloo Region’s light rail transit (LRT) system. It runs between Kitchener’s Fairview Park Mall and Waterloo’s Conestoga Mall, with stops at the University of Waterloo campus. ION trains connect passengers to the existing bus system (Grand River Transit), making it easy to travel across the region. Use the trip planner for information about routes and schedules.
