WHO IS WACE?

WACE is the only international association dedicated to developing, expanding, branding and advocating for Cooperative and Work-Integrated Education (CWIE) programs within industry and educational institutions. CWIE is a term created by WACE to acknowledge and embrace all forms of work-integrated learning. CWIE is an encompassing term that includes: cooperative education, internships, semester in industry, international co-op exchanges, research, clinical rotations, service learning and community service.

WHY A WACE ASSESSMENT INSTITUTE?

For the past eight years WACE has run a Global Institute on Experiential Education where teams from colleges and universities attend to design strategic plans to either increase and enhance an existing CWIE program or to develop a new CWIE program. The most common concern voiced by the colleges and universities in attendance is how to assess the learning outcomes of their CWIE program.

The WACE Assessment Institute is designed to allow the participants the opportunity to work with experienced higher education professionals who have or are tackling the many issues connected to the assessment of the learning outcomes of CWIE programs. The ultimate goal is for the participants to leave the Institute with a strategy of how to move the assessment process forward within their respective programs and campuses. The Institute will also help the colleges and universities in attendance to address the increasing interest from students, parents, government agencies and accrediting bodies concerning the learning that occurs within their CWIE programs.

WHY IS THIS ASSESSMENT INSTITUTE DIFFERENT?

Unlike other assessment conferences and seminars, the WACE Assessment Institute focuses strictly on CWIE programs. The Institute faculty are veteran program managers and assessment experts. The topics covered by the Institute relate specifically to the issues faced by CWIE programs. There is no other program in the world with this type of framework or focus.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND THE ASSESSMENT INSTITUTE?

All faculty, program administrators and academic leaders who are actively engaged in the strategic and day to day management of CWIE programs.

HOW WILL THE ASSESSMENT INSTITUTE FUNCTION?

The Institute and its faculty are dedicated to making this an interactive experience for the participants. The Institute programming will utilize a participative model of learning where the attendees will learn by interacting with each other when discussing solutions to the problems and issues connected to assessment.
