Welcome to the Territory Provided by Dr. Skip Dick

Dr. Skip Dick is a member of the local Songhees nation and an active member of Elders' Voices,
a group of 11 Elders who support Indigenous student success at UVic.
Cultural Presentation by the Lekwungen Traditional Dancers

The group started in 1979 under the teachings of Ray Peters and the Victoria Native Friendship Centre. It was then passed on to the late Jim Dick to carry on for the Songhees people.
The group gradually grew from the three Dick women singing to including members of another Songhees nation family, and they now stand strong at 22 members. Since then, they have not looked back and enjoy spending time with the people they perform for, demonstrating their culture and sharing their stories.

  Doing of
THEORY
of Doing
  Synopsis:
We can all build theory from student and graduate stories about work-integrated learning. Research trends support this type of theory construction to understand how our programs help students construct their lives. The story of one such project will be told to illuminate how learning can happen when work and classes alternate. Conference participants can evaluate whether the strategies of learning evident in this study apply to their own students. In this way, local theories about how and what students learn can be compared, combined, and tested to support claims about the benefits of work-integrated learning.
