  1) EMPLOYABILITY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT (JICA) R402 / DC1009
  Facilitated by: Mamoru Iida (Japanese International Co-operation Agency)

The Employability Improvement Project (EIP) by using 3i Knowledge and Thinking system is a bilateral technical project between the SA Dept of Higher Education & Training and JICA. The projects has been run with the Universities of Technology in SA and has received widespread support as an important component of any work-readiness program. The workshop will provide an overview of the program that served as an induction for UoT staff

Who should attend: College and Universities Co-op and WIL program managers & Practitioners, Industry mentors.
 
     
  2) CAPITALISING ON WORK-INTEGRATED EDUCATION R403 / DC1010
  Discussion led by: International & Local Industry Leaders; SETA Leadership; QCTO

The discussion will highlight the financial (& other) benefits of training to industry, academia and students, and the challenges that are faced. It will also cover issues like insurance for WIL students in the workplace

Who should attend: Industry; College & University managers and academics; SETA
 
     
  3) WORKING WITH SETAs R404 / DC1012
  Discussion led by: Interseta Forum Chair DHET SETA Co-ordinator

SETAs drive the National Skills development Strategy III and are key to linking industry and academia, in addition to controlling large portions of the skills funding. Engagement and support of the FET Colleges and – to a lesser extent- the UoTs, is also a mandate of SETAs. This workshop will examine how the various parties can better engage with each other to maximize the benefits of industry-academia partnerships, Work-integrated Education and the use of skills funding to enable and improve skills development in the country.

  4) COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT R405 / DC1013
  Facilitated by: SA National Civics Organisation Development Institute (SDI)

The role of community engagement in developing citizenship amongst students as well as serving as a work-Integrated Education vehicle outside formal employment will be discussed. Should all WIL programs have a community engagement/service learning component? What of the role of Co-operatives? And getting unemployed graduates to form co-operatives?

The National Rural Youth Service Corp (NARYSEC) will be highlighted, including the youth green skills development
